Europe Sept 2 and 3rd: Flight and Lucerne

22th Oct. 2011
Well I am finally getting around to blogging about our Europe trip!  We left September 2nd and returned the 19th.  We had a really good trip and nothing bad happened (though I did try to lose my camera like 3 times and BOTH of our bags oops). Sept 2:  We flew out of Kansas City around 3pm to Boston on Frontier.  Flight was ontime and very uneventful.  We landed in Boston and realized due to construction we have to leave the security area, take a bus in bumper to bumper traffic to another terminal and go back through security.  It took 2 hours from landing until we made it to the other terminal!  If we did not decide to have a 3+ hour layover we would have missed our flight to Zurich.  So Boston airport got a big negative from us due to that. Our 9:40 flight to Zurich was ontime and in a huge Airbus 340 with 4 engines!  The seats were pretty comfy and the entertainment systems had tons of movies and TV to choose from.  SWISS even gives you free alcohol, which unfortunately I did not get to participate in.  In the 7 hour flight they fed us dinner, a snack, breakfast and yummy Swiss chocolate.  The breakfast was the highlight with the best croissant ever!  I really liked SWISS and would definitely fly them again if given the chance, much better than our flights on US Airways. Sept 3:  Well we both got a bit of sleep before our 11am landing.  We made it through the airport and to the train station to catch a noon train to Lucerne.  The hardest part of that was getting small enough bills to purchase our train tickets.  The machine wouldn't take our credit cards (only took Euro Mastercard) and would only take 20 franc or smaller bills, when the ATM's all gave you 50 franc! We made it to Lucerne around 1 and took the 15ish minute walk to our hotel, ETap.  Not the nicest hotel, but the only one I could find in Lucerne for under 100 franc!  We then walked the gorgeous waterfront, after trying to get lost, and found a nice park with a beach and ate lunch at a vendor place on the beach.  I had a schnitzel sandwich was was great and probably the best value food I ate in all of Switzerland.  We then walked through Old Town seeing the Chapel Bridge, Old Town Halls, Lion Monument and Lake Lucerne.  Of course we were jet lagged and stayed up until a whopping 9pm!
